You have a couple of options when fishing with us. Working with one of the oldest and most respected fishing charters in Homer, Silver Fox Charters, we can offer you trips on 30′ six passenger vessels or you can choose the 56′ vessel, the “Ultimate” which is perfect for larger groups, family gatherings or if you still want a great but more affordable charter. To check out information about the “Ultimate” specifically please go to. Our 6 pack boats have heated cabins and restrooms onboard and are very comfortable. We provide all your bait and tackle and do not have surcharges hidden in our prices like other charters. Some companies will have extra fees, like fuel surcharges, lurking in their small print or penalties for using extra tackle over and above the amount they allot per fisherman. These hidden fees can add a lot to the price of your trip if you are not careful.
We take great pride in our fishing trips and we will always go the extra mile to set us apart from the rest. Homer is the halibut capital of the world for good reason, there are halibut almost everywhere and honestly, most charters could take you fishing and catch your limit of 2 halibut*. Our aim though is not catch everyone their limit and see how fast we can get back to the dock. Our goal, quite simply, is to have the trip of a lifetime every time we leave the dock.
Halibut trips are not all the same, some would have you believe a couple of 15-20 pound fish is what you should expect, and yes, that’s the average size halibut for Homer, but that’s not what you come to Homer for and that’s not what we’re all about. We can’t guarantee you giant halibut, but be assured we won’t be happy with little fish either. Halibut trips depart between 6:30 and 7:00am and after a 25-60 mile ride you will be fishing in some of the most productive fishing grounds in the world. We frequent the Barren and Chugiak Islands, the Gulf of Alaska and the far side of Cook Inlet in an effort to find and actually catch the fish you see in all the pictures. The “chicken” hole should be for the last stop, only if absolutely necessary, not the first.
If halibut on its own doesn’t sound like enough, we offer the excitement of combo trips. Combo trips give you the chance to catch your limit of both halibut and one or more other species. Other species include salmon (either Kings or Silvers (Cohoe)) or rockfish. This is an excellent way to maximize your fishing time and fill your freezer with some of the finest eating fish there are.
For something a little different and if you don’t want to tie up a whole day, what about a 1/2 day trip on one of our 6 passenger vessels. These have proven to be very successful and are a lot of fun. You can choose either a morning or afternoon trip depending on what fits your schedule better. You’ll still be fishing for your limit of halibut and the price per person is only $175 plus tax. We can also offer an “exclusive boat” rate if you want the boat to yourselves (up to six people).
Whichever trip you decide on, we supply all fishing equipment, bait, tackle, fish cleaning, and an experienced and licensed crew that really love and have fun with what they do.
* The Federal government sets rules each year regarding the catch limit for the recreational fisherman. Basically, in our area, you are allowed to keep two halibut per day, however, one must be 29 inches or less. The other halibut does not currently have a size limit. Rules may change for 2015 and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
